Johann Pachelbel 1653-1706 was a German Baroque composer, organist and teacher, who brought the south German organ tradition to its peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, and his contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.

Pachelbel's Canon is the most famous piece of music by German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. It was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue in the same key. Like most other works by Pachelbel and other pre-1700 composers, the Canon remained forgotten for centuries and was rediscovered only in the 20th century. Several decades after it was first published in 1919, the piece became extremely popular, and today it is frequently played at weddings and included on classical music compilations, along with other famous Baroque pieces such as Air on the G String by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Johann Pachelbel war ein deutscher Komponist des Barock. Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Komponist war Pachelbel Organist unter anderem in Wien, Eisenach, Erfurt, Stuttgart, Gotha und ab 1695 an der Sebalduskirche in Nürnberg.

Aufnahme des Kanons in D
Das populärste Werk Pachelbels ist der Kanon aus Kanon und Gigue in D-Dur. Es handelt sich um den einzigen von ihm komponierten Kanon, er ist deshalb nicht repräsentativ für Pachelbels Gesamtwerk. Vom Kanon existieren heute zahlreiche Aufnahmen, Versionen und Bearbeitungen.

Se cuenta entre los más importantes músicos de la generación anterior a Johann Sebastian Bach, de cuyo padre fue amigo. Entre sus numerosas composiciones hay que mencionar su célebre Canon en Re mayor, escrito para tres violines y bajo continuo, obra que ha sido objeto de numerosas grabaciones.
